I have experienced cases where a treatment plan was inadequately developed due to a poor relationship between a patient and the medical practitioner. A good relationship facilitates data collection, organization, differential diagnosis, and treatment plans. Patients express themselves better when they feel that the healthcare worker is friendly, approachable, and ready to listen. You have highlighted the importance of patients speaking for themselves. I have witnessed several cases of relapse or reoccurrence caused by non-compliance. Patients must be advised on the importance of strictly following their regimen and attending hospital reviews.
Medical practitioners are encouraged to use rating scales and guidelines in making a diagnosis (Setkowski et al., 2021). Scales such as NICH Vanderbilt Assessment Scale for children with ADHD help in assessing signs and symptoms, patients’ behavior, and making a diagnosis. I recommend that hospital managers organize continuous medical education and training for medical practitioners to learn the latest guidelines and evidence-based practice.
